Boat Buyers Beware of the Following

Just like shopping for a new car, the boat buyer needs to be as educated as possible to avoid getting in over their head. If you can avoid some of the following pitfalls, you will be able find the right boat and maximize your times out on the water with your family and friends. So before you go out cruising the boat sales, check out this advice from our online boat listing associate

Boats for sale1. Too Big a Boat – Don’t make the mistake of buying a boat that is too big for your needs because you were told you will grow into the boat. If the boat is too big for you today, it will be too big for you tomorrow. Understand that the bigger the boat, the higher the insurance, fuel, storage, and maintenance costs over the course of the year.

2. Too Good to Be True – If you are thinking to yourself that the deal sounds too good to be true, then walk away because it most likely is. If the boat has undergone major repair work and you are told it was just preventative maintenance, run from the deal. It might be that the boat was in an accident or other serious issues are being hidden from view.

3. The Package Deal – If you want a 20 foot boat, then buy a 20 foot boat and budget accordingly. Don’t think you are getting the deal of the century because for a few bucks more a month you will get a trailer, upgraded radio, bigger motor, or other accessories. Stick to the bare minimum and upgrade on your own time schedule because early on you need as much cash in reserve as possible.

4. Low Dollar Deals – If you are being offered an amazing deal but need to close the offer today, take time to sleep on the deal. Don’t fall for stories about other buyers waiting to take the deal if you pass or that if you don’t buy now it is already being sold, if it was meant to be it will be there tomorrow. Never feel pressured about buying a boat, this is one expenditure that should last you many years, so take it slow before you buy.

If you just do not feel 100% comfortable about the deal, step back and wait it out. If it was the deal of the century, it will be there tomorrow when you have slept on it and have a clearer mind. When the deal is ideal for your situation, you will know beyond a doubt.
